Camp Lourdes

A cougar looking for his next meal. Hopefully not one of us.

We live at Camp Lourdes on Kootenay Lake near Nelson, British Columbia, Canada. Our homestead got it's name when it was a Catholic church camp years ago. We have lots of animal visitors that stop by. Cougar are the most dangerous wild animals in our area. (one of our cats was recently eaten by a cougar) We also see bear, elk, deer, racoon, skunk, beaver, otter and squirrel. Some of our feathered friends include eagles, osprey, heron, and of course Canadian geese. There are no typical utility services such as power, telephone, cable tv or garbage pick up. We treat our homestead as if it were an island and recycle 90% of our waste. This includes composting, and purchasing products with minimal packaging.

Boating in one way, shape or form is a daily part of life.
Camp Lourdes is boat access only and very private. We have few human visitors (thankfully) as it is somewhat difficult to get to. It is wonderfully peaceful and quiet. Vern is working on a steel boat he is building from scratch. It is 110' long with a 25' beam. It still needs to have the engines and other equipment fitted out. We enjoy all four seasons and lots of activities that go with them. We snowshoe, hike, fish, swim, and of course go boating.

The scenery in our neck of the woods is at least as pretty as this.
We also enjoy improving our homestead. Nancy is hoping to begin raising chickens within a couple of years and is trying to learn as much as possible ahead of time. This webpage was built using the templates provided by Fortune City. Using them has encouraged Nancy to begin learning about html to jazz things up. Any comments about raising chickens, building boats, alternative energy, html and anything else can be sent to the email below. We'd like to hear from you.
